I know the 1290 SAS is only 485 pounds wet and the K1600 is 760 pounds wet, but the K1600 is also more comfortable, but it costs nearly $31K new, or $20K for a 2017 model, and the maintenance on any BMW is expensive. Anyone have actual experience with the KTM 1290 SAS bike to share any pros and cons I should know about before making a purchase?

It is a very common issue on the 1.0 and 2.0, stress fractures at the mounts cause leaks. Simple to change it but the part is ~$500 if out of warranty. Make sure you keep your battery terminals tight, they can work their way loose and give MTC failure and other odd-ball errors. Lots of tips and such on the FB group "Club KTM 1290 Super Duke R".
